How to Stop Students Cheating on Papers?
Many people wonder why some students cheat? Do they not have a conscious? Do their parents teach them that it does not matter how it gets done as long as it gets done? Do they just want to take the shortest route possible even it its wrong?
There is many ways to cheat on papers. Some students may copy an entire paper (some websites make students pay for them, while others give them away for free.) Other students try to be more creative and cut/copy from different sources and rearrange words to sound like their own.
It is a fact, students cheat? Software’s such as Turnitin.com, plagiarism.org, GPTeach, MITT, and others. Some Universities have their own software that they use. Either way, it is proven that they work. They catch majority of students who plagiarize.
In addition to these softwares, what can teachers do to prevent their students from cheating

many students in my school copy their work. Teachers think that tasks that are about the student's own experience and life help to stop this copying.

Interesting comment. I agree with this. A student could not possibly cheat when they have to talk about individual hands on experiences. Thanks Pisutr
ReplyDeleteTo my thinking student cheat because they lack confidence and they do not see it as cheating. Also, if they don't have value for work and don't see it as important then they copy.
ReplyDeleteI think an easy way to stop plagiarism would be to tell student sources to be used as a practice for citation.
